There’s something about being outside that resets you.
The quiet of early morning light hitting a ridgeline. The sound of boots on dirt, or the first sip of coffee at camp before the world wakes up. Things feel simpler. Cleaner. Honest.
That’s exactly why we built Forth & Further the way we did.
From day one, we made a decision that would shape everything: we would be plastic-free. Not “less plastic.” Not “reduced plastic.” Completely plastic-free. Because if we’re asking you to take our coffee into the wild places you love, we have a responsibility to protect those places too.
Plastic doesn’t belong in the backcountry. It doesn’t belong in our oceans, our forests or scattered across the trails we hike and the mountains we climb. And yet, it’s everywhere. Single-use packaging has become the norm—easy, cheap and incredibly harmful.
We knew we could do better.
So we built our packaging system from the ground up to be 100% recyclable or compostable...right down to the plant-based tape we use. Every material we use has a purpose—and just as importantly, an end-of-life that doesn’t leave a lasting scar on the environment. No lingering waste. No microplastics breaking down over decades. No compromise.
It's not an easy path.
Plastic is convenient. It’s durable. It’s what most of the industry relies on. Choosing to go without it meant rethinking everything—from sourcing to design to durability in harsh outdoor conditions. It meant testing, failing and starting over more than once.
But the alternative—contributing to the problem—was never an option.
Because if you’ve ever watched the sun rise from a summit, filtered water from a glacier stream, or sat in silence under a sky full of stars, you know this: these places matter. They’re not just destinations. They’re part of who we are.
And protecting them isn’t someone else’s job. It’s ours.
Being plastic-free is more than a packaging decision. It’s a reflection of the kind of company we want to be—and the kind of community we want to build. One that values sustainability not as a trend, but as a responsibility. One that understands that small choices, made consistently, can lead to real impact over time.
It also aligns with how many of us try to live our lives beyond the trail.
Choosing whole foods. Prioritizing health. Paying attention to what we put in our bodies and how we move through the world. Going plastic-free is just an extension of that mindset—being intentional about what we consume and what we leave behind.
We’re not perfect. No company is.
But we believe in progress. In doing better where we can. In making decisions that align with the places we love and the people we serve.
So when you tear open a packet of Forth & Further coffee on a cold morning outside, you can know this...what you’re holding won’t outlive the landscape around you.
And that matters.
Because the goal isn’t just to fuel your next adventure.
It’s to help ensure those adventures are still there—wild, clean and unchanged—for years to come.
